Entering the final phase of the Grand Prix, behind Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton fought for the podium. It was Russell who earned the final podium spot, after a great battle with his teammate. The Briton reacted to their clash in Montreal.

During the final stint, Russell wanted to move on Oscar Piastri into the final chicane, but that did not materialise. This led to Hamilton overtaking both drivers for P3. After Russell could successfully get past the Australian, he entered a battle with Lewis Hamilton. On medium tyres compared to the seven-time world champion's hards, he got the better of his teammate.

"As always with Lewis, it [the battle] is really hard and fair," Russell said following the race. "When you're racing with one of the greats, you know that you can trust them. And that was really great to see at the end," the Briton praised his teammate, who earned Mercedes' first podium in 2024.

Hamilton himself also told GPblog and others that he didn't know that Russell had a set of medium tyres remaining, and that if he had known, he would have stayed out on track rather than make an additional pit stop.
