Verstappen misses out on this record set by Hamilton after DNF
Max Verstappen has no immediate chance of snatching a record from Lewis Hamilton after having to retire his car in Australia. The Dutchman was just a few races away from another great achievement.
Verstappen also missed out on another record due to his failure in Australia. He had already won nine times in a row, which allowed him to match his record from last season at Albert Park. However, this did not happen and so it will take a while again before the three-time world champion has another opportunity to break his own record.
Verstappen does not break Hamilton's record
However, there was another record that was getting closer and closer. Verstappen had not retired from a GP since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. Most impressively, Verstappen had finished in the points during every race between his two DNFs, 43 times in a row.
Only Lewis Hamilton did this more often. He grabbed points a whopping 48 times in a row between the 2018 Britissh Grand Prix and the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion missed the Sakhir Grand Prix, which also took place at the Bahrain International Circuit but on a different layout, because of Covid-19. Had he not missed this one, seven more races could possibly have been added. Only at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2021 was the next time Hamilton failed to take points.
