Valtteri Bottas committed a major blunder at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Finnish driver forgot to brake for the first corner and ruined the race of Land Norris, Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. He doesn't think it will affect his chances of a contract extension with Mercedes.

Bottas is duelling with George Russell for a spot alongside Lewis Hamilton at the German formation. When the 31-year-old driver is asked at the Hungaroring on Sunday night if he has had a conversation with team boss Toto Wolff. "We didn't talk about [my future]. I don't think one race will influence anything. I don't think so. We'll see in the next weeks what happens."

It is expected that a decision will be made by Mercedes not long after the summer break. Bottas would have liked the chance to go into the break feeling a little better. “If I'm honest, it would be nice to race next weekend and try and get a good race. But I guess it's time for a break and try to come back strong and try and have a positive start to the second half," he explained.

Other possibilities Bottas

In the rumour mill, Bottas has also been linked with a switch to his old team Williams or Alfa Romeo Racing. At the latter team, he could become the replacement for his fellow countryman Kimi Raikkonen. Bottas is asked by Formula1.com the question if he has any other options than Mercedes? "I can't tell you – but we're working!"
