Zane Maloney will not finish the current Formula 2 season, after the Sauber reserve driver signed a contract with the new Lola Yamaha ABT team that will compete in Formula E. As the latter class will begin their new season in Mexico on 7 December, Maloney will be present there and therefore will not compete at the Abu Dhabi event in F2.

Lola Yamaha ABT told GPblog that the young driver will not compete in the F2 weekend in Abu Dhabi, because of his duties at his new team. However, the team also underlined that Maloney will compete in Qatar in the feeder series driving for Rodin.

Maloney makes debut in Formula E

Maloney has a little chance of winning the Formula 2 title, where he is third in the championship, and now after finishing in Qatar, he will be on the Formula E grid full-time, being the teammate of Lucas di Grassi. Last season, Maloney was also Andretti's test and reserve driver in Formula E, in addition to being Sauber's reserve driver as well.

Sauber informed GPblog last week that nothing had changed in terms of their relationship with Maloney. The driver from Barbados is thus still linked to the Swiss team.
