Who is Alpine's new F1 driver Jack Doohan?
Alpine have confirmed who will replace Esteban Ocon for 2025: Jack Doohan. The young Australian will partner Pierre Gasly at the French team. But who is he?
Who is Jack Doohan?
Jack Doohan is an Australian racing driver who is currently the reserve driver for the Alpine F1 team. Doohan was born in January 2003 and is the son of Grand Prix motorcycle road racing world champion Mick Doohan. The 21-year-old most recently competed in the 2023 F2 season for Invicta Racing, finishing third overall. In his 59 Formula 2 starts, Doohan won six races, secured five pole positions and finished on the podium 11 times. Doohan's first kart was gifted to him by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, as their families were close.
Doohan signed for the Alpine Academy in early 2022 and participated in his first FP1 at the Mexican Grand Prix and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the same year. He has since become Alpine's official reserve driver, which he juggled with F2 in 2023, but became his full-time role in 2024. Ahead of driving full-time for the team in 2025, Doohan will likely complete at least one more free practice session to gain additional experience. So far in the current season, he has driven in FP1 of the Canadian Grand Prix, but his time on track was limited due to poor weather conditions. He has also appeared on F1TV as a pundit as reserve driver.
