Player from Hamilton's favourite team looks up to Verstappen: 'A winner'
Max Verstappen is an inspiration to many young fans, but even top athletes still look up to him. Jurriën Timber, a former Ajax player, told The Mirror that he sees Verstappen as a role model.
Timber made the switch from Ajax to Arsenal last year. Here, the Dutch defender was seen as a key force to win another Premier League after years. However, his first season did not go as hoped: the Oranje international suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in the opening game of the season. As a result, he only featured in the first and last match of the season.
Timber sees Verstappen as an example
Timber, however, is a winner. Here he looks to other great athletes. Like the Formula 1 world champion of the past three seasons: "I like to look at winners and in the NBA you see them a lot. But also you look at Max Verstappen..."
The former Ajax player continued, "You see his interviews sometimes after races and you are like ‘wow’ this guy is such a big winner and I love to see that, see his comments that happen after a race.” On which team is the best in the Netherlands, Verstappen and Timber will disagree. The Formula One driver is a big fan of PSV, while the Arsenal defender played against the club from Eindhoven for years. On the other hand, Timber now plays for Lewis Hamilton's favourite club.
