Top marks for Norris and Piastri after Hungarian Grand Prix
Oscar Piastri won the Hungarian Grand Prix after being left ahead by Lando Norris. Who gets the highest marks after the Hungarian GP and who fell through? These are the figures from GPblog.
Oscar Piastri drove a strong qualifying but fell just short of outsmarting his teammate. In the race, Piastri got away well and drove a strong first stint. However, Piastri then dropped a bit. In the second stint, he made a mistake that allowed Norris to get closer and in the third stint, on fresher tyres, he was unable to get closer to his teammate.
Lando Norris did little wrong in Hungary. The Briton drove an excellent qualifying session but had to give up his first place at the start. In the race, he did what he needed to do by putting the pressure on Piastri, who also started making mistakes as a result. Norris was also clearly faster in the third stint, but his team did not care. Norris can only blame himself for actually obeying that team order.
How did Verstappen perform in Hungary?
A neat race weekend for Lewis Hamilton. The stronger of the two Mercedes drivers this weekend and a 200th career podium. The duel with Verstappen was somewhat dubious, though. However, the stewards saw this as a racing incident.
Charles Leclerc was still the schmuck on Friday with a crash in FP2. In qualifying, Leclerc was also slower than his teammate, only to end up scoring the most points for Ferrari on Sunday.
Max Verstappen drove around Hungary irritated. The pace was not there and the strategy was dramatic. Verstappen drove a strong qualifying but was unable to make the difference in the race. In duelling with Hamilton, he came off the track once already, after which his final action had somewhat of an all-or-nothing attempt. It ended up a fifth place.
