Haas strikes a new engine deal with Ferrari
Haas F1 and Ferrari have reached an agreement on a new engine deal. The American team will continue to run with the Italian-branded engines until 2028. Ayao Komatsu, Team Principal of MoneyGram Haas F1Team said: “I’m thrilled to extend our relationship with Scuderia Ferrari until 2028. As an organization we’ve only ever raced with Ferrari power units and to have that continued stability moving into the next set of power unit regulations is a key part of our on-going development.”
Komastu also praised the relationship between the two teams, who have partnered with each other since Haas entered Formula 1 in 2016. "The relationship with Scuderia Ferrari has always been a special one to us – they were instrumental in the genesis of the program back in the early days and have continued to be a valuable technical partner to us throughout the past nine seasons. I’m delighted we now have more seasons ahead and my thanks go to Fred Vasseur and many others at Scuderia Ferrari for continuing to show faith in our project. This announcement is just another example of the long-term ambition of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team – our investment and growth in the sport continues.”
Red Bull files a complaint with the FIA over McLaren's brake discs
Red Bull have filed a complaint to the FIA, claiming that McLaren might have developed an extra cooling channel. Reportedly, the British team have made a hole near the brake discs in order to insert sensors to measure the temperature of the rims and tyres. Although they are allowed to do this for free practice on Friday, these must be covered from Saturday. Red Bull believes the team have failed to do this.
The FIA found in the last two races that the access points to the sensors - i.e. the holes - were closed, in accordance with the regulations. McLaren's solution? Tape over them, according to photos taken during those races.
Adrian Newey has been ignore in the development of the RB20
According to Formu1a.uno, Adrian Newey does not agree with the ongoing development of the RB20. Technical director Pierre Waché and chief aerodynamicist Enrico Balbo are said to have ignored concerns from the top designer and stuck to their own route. After the Miami Grand Prix, Waché is said to have partially revamped the car's aerodynamics. In doing so, the top man aimed mainly for better performance at low and medium speeds, but without giving up speed in the high-speed corners. Cooling was rigorously redesigned, to - reportedly - Newey's dismay.
Daniel Ricciardo has his say on the crash with Max Verstappen in Baku 2018
At the time, Verstappen made a late move across the track to defend from Ricciardo who could not slow down in time, causing Ricciardo to crash into the back of he Dutchman and end both of their races. Speaking on The Red Flags podcast, now six years later after the incident, Ricciardo revealed he still jokes about the incident with his former teammate and others in the team: "The first year we went there, all the circuit branding said, "Well done Baku." It was like they were congratulating themselves, so every time we go there after this incident, we congratulate ourselves and say, "Well done Baku!"
