Which F1 drivers have the most wins at the same Grand Prix?
The 2024 British Grand Prix saw Lewis Hamilton take his first race win since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, 946 days in total. That win at Silverstone in front of his home fans was an emotional one on a personal level for the Brit, but it also saw him stand alone and have the most wins out of all F1 drivers at a singular Grand Prix after earning his ninth win at the British Grand Prix. Which drivers are on the list of having the most wins at the same Grand Prix? GPblog explains.
Lewis Hamilton
Of course, we have to start this list with the driver who stands alone and holds the record for the most wins at the same Grand Prix. Hamilton broke that record with a fantastic wet-dry race drive, earning his ninth British Grand Prix victory at his home race and breaking yet another F1 record in, arguably, the greatest career the sport has ever seen, winning in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024.
The extent of Hamilton's success is also shown in this list, as his name comes again in the most wins at a Grand Prix category. Along with his record at his home Grand Prix, he is joint-second on the list with his eight Hungarian Grand Prix wins across his career, winning in 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018,2019 and 2020, along with seven wins in 2007, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 at the Canadian Grand Prix. The United States Grand Prix, the Chinese Grand Prix and the Spanish Grand Prix have all been won six times by Hamilton across his career, highlighting the dominance the Brit has had.
Michael Schumacher
The closest to Hamilton's dominance is the other seven-time World Champion in the world of F1. Michael Schumacher may not have a joint record with Hamilton anymore, but he is still joint-second on the list with eight wins at the French Grand Prix, winning in 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006.
However, he has six more Grands Prix on the list. The German driver has notched seven wins in his career at the Canadian Grand Prix and the San Marino Grand Prix, along with six wins at four Grands Prix, which are the Belgian Grand Prix, Spanish Grand Prix, Japanese Grand and the European Grand Prix, respectively.
Alain Prost
With Hamilton and Schumacher leading the way with nine, eight and seven Grand Prix wins, two more drivers have joined the Brit and the German in the list with six wins at certain Grand Prix. The first is the four-time World Champion Alain Prost.
Prost has notched six wins at two Grands Prix over his career. The first one is at the Brazilian Grand Prix with wins in 1982, 1984, 1085, 1987, 1988 and 1990. The other comes at his home race, the French Grand Prix. Prost has given his home fans reason to cheer six times, winning in 1981, 1983, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1993.
Ayrton Senna
There could not be an F1 record list without the late great Ayrton Senna included in it. The Brazilian driver mastered the streets of Monaco six times across his career, with one of those races being the iconic last-lap defence, keeping Nigel Mansell behind him and earning himself victory.
Senna, regarded as one of the most talented drivers the sport has ever seen, highlighted this talent by winning six times on the streets of the principality. Senna won in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993, winning all his races in just a seven-year span, with five of them coming in successive years.
