Norris points to rival Mercedes: 'They make the difference there'
Lando Norris will start from P3 on the grid at Silverstone. As the grid was set up for the British Grand Prix, Norris did finish ahead of Max Verstappen, but will start behind the two Mercedes drivers, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. This however, did not surprise the McLaren driver.
"I was already a tenth and a half down, so it's tough. I think George and Lewis did a great job for two cars to be up there," Norris began praising the two other British drivers, Russell and Hamilton. "Shows that the team are also doing an amazing job. It was super close. I think if I put in a good enough lap, it was close and within a bit of a fight. But no, they've [Mercedes] seemed very quick all weekend since FP1. So they're thereabouts, but I just didn't deliver it today."
Norris not surprised by Mercedes
Asked about whether Norris was surprised by Mercedes' one-two result, the McLaren driver simply just answered: "No."
"I think even if you look at last year, Mercedes was probably one of the quickest in the race. If not potentially the quickest. So I expect them to be very quick tomorrow, especially since they can look after their front tyres very well. They have a very good front end and I think that's going to be a good saviour for them tomorrow," Norris pointed out Mercedes' strength.
The one-time Grand Prix winner continued: "The conditions are going to be tricky. But we're there, we've been very quick in the races over the last two months. It's pretty big. It's over qualifying pace, but this is a very different type of circuit. It's a very different layout, but it's still a strength and hopefully, it comes back towards us a little bit tomorrow."
