Sky Sports: 'Williams considering replacing Sargeant in summer with this driver'
The silly season is in full swing, and rumours are following each other at breakneck speed. Esteban Ocon is one of the drivers frequently linked to teams. Finally, the Frenchman is leaving Alpine after the current season. At least, that is the intention. On Sky Sports, Ted Kravitz revealed that Williams have Ocon on their radar to replace Sargeant as early as this season.
It is no secret that Williams are not happy with the performance of the American, who is in his second season in Formula 1. Stories have been circulating for quite some time that Sargeant will be sidelined by the British team even during the '24 season. In the past, F2 talent Andrea Kimi Antonelli was linked with an immediate and temporary move to Williams, but his employer Mercedes do not seem to be keen on that.
'Doohan to replace Ocon in turn'
There are not many other options otherwise, which make Williams ended up with Ocon. The Frenchman has a clouded relationship with Alpine. That team, in turn, could give Jack Doohan the chance in the event of an early departure of Ocon. The reserve driver could then prove himself in the remaining races and prove that he deserves a place alongside Pierre Gasly for '25.
If Williams did indeed opt to bring in Ocon, it would be remarkable. After all, it looks like Ocon will be racing for Haas f1 next season. He is the leading candidate to become Oliver Bearman's teammate.
