Goerge Russell continues his fantastic form. After taking victroy at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend, the Brit delighted his home fans by taking pole postion with the newly-upgraded and improved W15, beating his teammate Lewis Hamilton to take a Mercedes 1-2. Lando Norris finishing third meant it was a British 1-2-3 when the chequred flag fell.
Russell says the Mercedes is 'coming alive'
Speaking to David Coulthard after a closely-fought Q3 session Russell said: "What a feeling! At the start of this year, we couldn't have dreamt of being on pole here. One-two for me and Lewis, Lando P3. Just mega. It's down to all these fans as well. They give us so much energy."
It's the first time since 1968 that three Brits were in the first three places on the grid in what was a big part of F1 history at Silverstone this weekend. But Russell knows that there is potential to add to his win at Austria in Sunday's race.
"The car at the moment is feeling so good. It really came alive in quali. What a joy to drive around this circuit. We are riding this wave at the moment. Absolutely buzzing. But eyes are on tomorrow. We have a race to win. It will be tight with Lando and Max will be fast as well. I'm so excited right now," Russell concluded.
