Norris ready for another battle: 'We have a little bit more to fight'
Lando Norris finished first once again in the second free practice session this afternoon at Silverstone. With heavy rain making an appearance at the end of the session, it could be likely the drivers will face a wet Grand Prix on Sunday. The McLaren driver does not seem scared by this prospect.
McLaren had a strong second session, with a one-two finish for the pair. Verstappen finished further down the line in seventh. The British driver was very pleased with his performance, as he told F1TV, "You're right, a good start to the weekend. Yeah, it wasn't like the cleanest, or it was cleanest, but I didn't feel that comfortable this morning, but through the sessions we made some tweaks and I got in a much nicer window, which is important around here," he said.
"It's quite on the nose and quite sketchy and I'm pretty high speed so tricky but I'm happy I think we made some good progress. I think we're pretty tight and even with Mercedes they seem probably just as quick as us they just didn't turn up the engine and do as much in the final run so I think we're in a good place but we definitely have a little bit more to fight."
Is Norris prepared to win at home this weekend?
Although he was unable to finish the race in Austria, the McLaren driver was having a strong race after he started from pole position ahead of Verstappen. Now, for this home race, he looks to secure his second win in F1. He believes the support of the home fans will certainly help: "It's lovely. I wish the weather was a little bit better than it is at the minute, especially now but at least the rain held off for most of the day. I love it. Honestly, it's it's great. It's busy. It's chaotic, but trying to do my part and give back a little bit to them and it's been a good start to the weekend from that side of it so we'll just try to keep it up."
At the end of this afternoon's session, heavy rain began to make an apperance. Although this is expected of the British weather, the McLaren driver hopes that the conditions improve by Sunday: "I always enjoy both conditions. I would prefer if it was you know one or the other and honestly on a on a home race you would probably prefer if it was just dry because we seem like we're in a good place and I wouldn't want to go too far away from that, but it's Silverstone and it's England so I am kind of ready for ready for everything but my preference would probably be to stay dry," he concluded.
