Tension at the front in Le Mans remains, nothing decided yet at hypercars
With just over four hours to go, the final stage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun. After several safety car procudures, the differences at the head of the field are minimal. Ten more cars are on the same lap among the hypercars. The #50 Ferrari leads the field, with the #83 AF Corse (Ferrari's customer team) in its shadow. Also, the #7 Toyota, the #6 Porsche Penske and the #2 Cadillac certainly still have a chance of victory.
Meanwhile, the track has dried up, after a night that was completed almost entirely behind the safety car. The heavy rain made it too dangerous to go around at full speed. The track was only released just after 8:00 am, but several cars made mistakes on the still wet sections. For instance, a Porsche hypercar and an Aston Martin GT car flew off the track at high speed.
At that time, the six Alpine drivers were already sitting at home on the couch. Both of the French team's cars had already retired with engine problems on Saturday evening. Those six drivers are also joined by the BMW drivers. The German manufacturers also finished this weekend with two DNFs.
LMP2 and LMGT3
In LMP2, the defending champions are leading the category, with Clément Novalak currently driving the #34 Inter Europol Competition car just ahead of Vector Sport's #10 car. In LMGT3, the #91 Mathey EMA car leads ahead of Team WRT's #31 car. Valentino Rossi's team with the #46 car is out of the competition.
