Horner continues to defend Perez: 'Hurts him the most out of everyone'
Sergio Perez once again failed to show his best side at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver, who extended his contract earlier this week, retired from the second race in a row. Despite Perez being in lesser form, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner continues to defend him.
Perez has been faring a lot less well recently than before. With an eighth-place finish in Imola, followed by two DNFs, the Mexican has scored just four points in the past three race weekends. This is negative for Red Bull, as Perez's points are badly needed in the fight for the constructors' title.
Horner continues to defend Perez
Horner begins opposite Sky Sports: "It was a horrible weekend for Checo and obviously, we picked up some damage [at the start]. He'll need to come back strong in Barcelona. Thankfully Ferrari had a shocker today, so they didn't get any points. That let us off the hook somewhat, but we need both cars scoring. We got away with it today, but we need Checo back up where he was at the beginning of the year, from Barcelona onwards."
Despite the poorer performance, Horner remains positive about Perez: "What we see with him time and time again, you think he's on the ropes and then he bounces back. He's a tough racer. He's a tough character. I think it hurts him more than anybody else. He'll be determined to come back and show everybody the form we know he's capable of and showed in the first four races of this year in Barcelona."
