Daniel Ricciardo started the Grand Prix at Imola last weekend from ninth place, but was unable to convert this starting position on the fifth row of the grid into points. The Visa Cash App RB driver has already received quite a lot of criticism this season, but the 34-year-old driver has the secret ingredient for a good performance in Monaco. His smile!

"I go into weekends with a fairly open-mind. Not with really too much expectation, certainly some curiosity about how well we can go, but I was a fan last year, drinking and partying and all that, not really, but I'm excited to be back in the cockpit, and Monaco is a special place," the Perth-based driver says.

"I mean, last year, watching as a fan, I never knew if I would actually get that experience. Firstly, just take it with a smile, and hopefully that smile delivers some good lap times," said the good-humoured Australian, who finished 13th in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

Despite the fact that Ricciardo has yet to achieve great final finishes this season, the VCARB driver is confident in the car. "I think the car is definitely in a good place. As I said, certainly we have a few parts to improve, but generally everything we put on the car has helped us."
