Third key staff member leaves Mercedes in just a short time
Gioacchino Vino has left Mercedes. The head of aerodynamics left in the middle of the season and is now on gardening leave. It is the third departure of a Mercedes chief in a short time.
GPblog learned that Vino, better known in the paddock as 'Jack', has not worked for Mercedes since the Imola Grand Prix weekend started. When this was put to Mercedes, confirmation followed from the German team. Vino has indeed left Mercedes and is now in the middle of his gardening leave.
Talk of a vacancy at Mercedes?
Vino is not the first to have left Mercedes. Earlier it was announced that Jerome D'Ambrosio and Loic Serra are also joining Ferrari from October. They had previously left Mercedes and signed a new deal with the rival. With D'Ambrosio, Serra, Vino, and last year, Mike Elliott, a lot of personnel have left within a short time.
Vino had been involved with Mercedes since 2018. There, he started as Principal Aerodynamicist and was promoted to Chief Aerodynamicist in October 2022. Whether Vino will stay in F1 and with which team that might be, is not yet known.
