Wolff again takes on 'professional' Hamilton
It has not been Lewis Hamilton's season so far in 2024. The seven-time world champion is currently sitting in ninth place in the World Championship. In China, the Briton complained about his car a lot throughout the race. Despite that, team boss Toto Wolff is, once again, sticking up for him.
It will have taken some getting used to for Hamilton when the Mercedes turned out to be inferior to the Red Bull and Ferrari in 2022. The Briton almost became World Champion the year before, and in the years he drove before 2022, he always managed to win at least once. Now, the 2021 Saudi Arabia Grand Prix is still the last Grand Prix won by the seven-time world champion, having not won a race in both 2022 and 2023. It also seems unrealistic to think he will take victory in 2024.
Wolff thinks Hamilton is a professional
Next season, Hamilton will move to Ferrari, and the disappointing performance could affect his motivation. However, Wolff thinks the Mercedes driver will not let himself be influenced. The team boss says: "I think Lewis is a professional and has behaved in that way until now."
Wolff continued: "He is trying to keep his morale high. And the morale of the team too, even if the results don't come. So I think I have no doubt that this is going to last. He's also been supportive when George [Russell] was going better or well."
