Alpine announce updates: 'We can be rigorous'
Alpine's season is anything but running smoothly; yet in the run-up to the Chinese Grand Prix, there is something of optimism in the French camp. The team of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly is currently without a point, but expects further updates in the coming period (in Japan, the first updates were present on the cars, ed.).
Pierre Gasly was pleased with the first updates put on his Alpine after the Japanese Grand Prix. No further adjustments will follow in China, but the Frenchman will not have to wait long for more either. "We're in a situation where, we can make bigger calls. So we'll see exactly what we do. But there'll be new parts coming in the next few races," said the one-time Grand Prix winner.
'This will bring Alpine closer to the points'
Ultimately though, Gasly argues, that the team "mid-term need a big thing". "I think it's clearly proven this for now that this sort of car concept doesn't deliver what we expected. But in the meantime, everything we can chip away every single weekend will get us closer to potentially point finishing at some point."
Alpine, which for years has had ambitions to be a race winner, are for now at the bottom in Formula 1, Gasly realises. "At the minute, we're clearly at the back of that sort of, like, second league. But every single tenth we can get as soon as possible, will make a difference at the end of the year."
