Unlike with Marko: 'I won't leave if Newey leaves'
The rumour mill has been running at full speed again in recent weeks. Indeed, Adrian Newey is said to have had an offer from Aston Martin. Unlike if Helmut Marko were to leave, Max Verstappen is less adamant about his own departure if Newey were to leave the team.
There are several main characters responsible for Red Bull Racing's success at the moment. One of them is Adrian Newey. As the team's technical director, he is responsible for designing the car.
Will Verstappen leave if Newey leaves Red Bull?
For Max Verstappen, it is important to keep this core of the team together. Who exactly this includes, he will not say. Yet the Dutchman also recognises that it might not be possible to keep everyone together forever. ''I can shout that everything should stay together, but if one person wants to leave, you cannot always stop that,'' he told in Japan.
As we know Verstappen, he is not concerned with the rumours at play. ''I haven't talked to him about it either. I don't know what's going on either. I am not concerned with that. I was busy skiing. I don't feel like reading all that stuff at all.''
Still, the three-time world champion is less adamant than he was when rumours of Helmut Marko's possible departure emerged. Indeed, back then he said that if Marko left the team, he too would leave. With Newey, this does not seem to be the case. ''Things like that are hard to fill in, because at the end of the day, there are a lot of people who make their cars fast. And yes, I would like Adrian (Newey) to stay and not go to another team. After all, he has a lot of knowledge,'' Verstappen said.
