Formula E | Bird wins race on the last lap
- GPblog.com
In the fourth race of the Formula E season, Sam Bird managed to take victory on the last lap. Mitch Evans finished second. Oliver Rowland closed out the top three. Nyck de Vries seemed on course for points, but things still went wrong for the Dutchman.
Pascal Wehrlein started the race from pole position. After briefly leading, he gave up first place to save energy. This phenomenon was seen several times. As the race progressed, the drivers were able to go a bit more full throttle.
Championship leader Nick Cassidy triggered a safety car. After losing his front wing, he crashed into the wall, marking the end of his race. He thus goes home from Brazil without points. Despite his retirement, he retains the championship lead. The race had another safety car as there were many loose parts of a front wing in Turn 1. The race lasted 31 laps, of which 34 laps were eventually made by the two safety cars.
Bad day for De Vries
Nyck de Vries started 13th. This was the best qualifying of the season for the Mahindra Racing driver. He drove a good race, having moved up a few places, until he went off track during an overtaking manoeuvre. This caused him to drop a lot of places and he finished 15th. De Vries did drive the fastest lap. The other Dutchman in Formula E is Robin Frijns. Unlike De Vries, he had his worst qualifying of the season. He started 17th and eventually finished 19th.
