In recent weeks, Toto Wolff has expressed several times that he would like Max Verstappen to join his team. Speaking to Austrian Oe24, the Mercedes team boss talks about the opportunities that would be available for the Dutchman should he actually make the switch.

New rules were introduced in 2022, and since then, Verstappen seems unbeatable. Things also seemed to be going well within the team, but have lately been unsettled with Christian Horner's alleged inappropriate behaviour, which he has since been cleared of following an investigation. But the situation hasn't settled down.

Mercedes smell opportunities to entice Verstappen to switch to the German racing team. Between 2014 and 2020, the team won all championships, but in recent years, things have not been going great. The team's goal is to be back in contention for victories and titles soon.

Why Wolff believes Verstappen should switch

Wolff, therefore, thinks that a switch for Verstappen would not be a crazy option for the Dutchman: "There will be completely new rules from 2026, especially when it comes to the engine. This gives us the chance to hopefully do as well as we did in 2014. If you can be there early as a driver, that's obviously an advantage."
