This is what Horner and Jos Verstappen discussed after 'explosive statements'
Jos Verstappen thought it was time for Christian Horner to leave as team boss at Red Bull Racing. However, Horner is still there and stated during the press conference in Saudi Arabia that he wants to move forward.
"I'm obviously aware of the comments that were made. There was a discussion subsequent to the race, and I think everybody's focus is very much on the future," Horner began when asked about the statements Jos made a week earlier. Max Verstappen's father stated in Bahrain that Horner staying on longer would create tensions within the team.
With those statements, Jos himself caused a commotion. Jos's father had already been linked to possible information leaks, and that did not diminish with those statements. Horner and Verstappen spoke to each other after the Bahrain Grand Prix, and the tension seems to be reduced.
What Horner and Jos Verstappen discussed
"I'm not going to air all the discussions that are private between the parties, but discussions have inevitably been had, and the team is focused on the challenges that are ahead of us." A little later in the press conference, another attempt is made, and Horner provides a little more clarity: "I spoke to Jos following the Grand Prix and obviously congratulated on his son's performance. I think it's in everybody's interest collectively that we've agreed to move on and focus on the future. We both have a vested interest in his son to get the best and provide the best cars for him and to get the best out of him."
Asked if Jos would play too big a role in Max's career, Horner remains diplomatic: "Max's father has played a key role in his career and getting him to Formula One. Jos is his own man, and Max is his own man as well. We've seen him (Max) go from being a teenager when he joined us to now being very much a young man who's achieved what he has. It's not for me to comment on relationships between fathers and drivers. They're all unique between the different individuals."
Horner hopes to draw a line under the whole matter after he is cleared by the lawyer. After Jos' email and statement, things have remained relatively quiet, although it also became clear on Thursday that the woman in question has been suspended by the team for the time being.
