F2 in Saudi Arabia: Ferrari junior on pole, Antonelli 6th
- GPblog.com
Oliver Bearman gets to start from pole position during the Formula 2 feature race in Saudi Arabia after achieving the fastest time in qualifying. Paul Aron will start from pole position for the sprint race as he finished tenth in qualifying. Formula 2 works with a 'reversed grid', meaning that the top ten in qualifying are reversed for the sprint.
The track in Jeddah was getting better and better, which meant that the times kept improving. Seven minutes before the end of the session, the drivers made huge improvements. Behind Bearman, Arjun Maini and Jak Crawford finished second and third.
Antonelli and Verschoor in top ten
Andrea Kimi Antonelli, part of the Mercedes Junior Team, finished sixth. Many eyes are on him in Formula 2, as the Italian is being linked with a seat in Mercedes' Formula 1 team. Lewis Hamilton is leaving for Ferrari in 2025, so a spot next to George Russell will become vacant. Antonelli seems to be a candidate for that spot.
Richard Verschoor set his car in ninth place, meaning the Dutchman gets to start from second in Friday's sprint race. Aron will start alongside Verschoot on the front row of the grid during the sprint race, as he finished tenth in qualifying
