Update | Drama in F2 qualifying for Maini, he loses pole
Kush Maini gets to start the first feature race of the season in Formula 2 from pole position. Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman had to make do with the 19th fastest time. Mercedes protégé Kimi Antonelli did not do much better with a P18.
In the last five minutes, the track got better and better and so the times got faster and faster. After 25 minutes of qualifying, Maini - for the first time in his career - turned out to be the fastest of the bunch. Teammate Bortoleto will start next to him on Saturday.
Friday is first the sprint race. In that race, there is a 'reversed grid'. That means the top ten of this qualifying will be reversed. Taylor Barnard will, therefore, start from the pole in the sprint race.

Update: Maini loses pole
Kush Maini has lost his pole. Afterwards, his Invicta Racing car did not meet the FIA technical regulations. As a result, the Indian drivers starts both the feature and the sprint race from last place. As a result, Maini's teammate Gabriel Bortoleto is promoted to pole position. Isack Hadjar will now line up next to the Brazilian on the front row. Jak Crawford (DAMS) will now start the sprint race from pole on the reverse grid, having moved up one position to tenth in the standings.
