Hamilton gives first reaction to leaving Mercedes: This is what he says
Lewis Hamilton will conclude his career in Formula 1 with the Mercedes team at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season. But the Briton - seven-time Formula 1 world champion - will race for Ferrari in 2025. Hamilton has commented on his switch for the first time.
Hamilton and Mercedes
Hamilton has always been with Mercedes in one way or another. When Hamilton raced for McLaren, they used Mercedes engines. Hamilton made the move to the Mercedes factory team in 2013. That turned out to be one of the most successful moves in F1 history.
Lewis Hamilton spoke about leaving Mercedes. "I have had an amazing 11 years with this team and I'm so proud of what we have achieved together. Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13 years old. It's a place where I have grown up, so making the decision to leave was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make," Hamilton said.
Hamilton turned 39 last month and is heading towards the last part of his F1 career. But he feels there is time for one last challenge.
"But the time is right for me to take this step and I'm excited to be taking on a new challenge. I will be forever grateful for the incredible support of my Mercedes family, especially Toto for his friendship and leadership and I want to finish on a high together. I am 100% committed to delivering the best performance I can this season and making my last year with the Silver Arrows, one to remember."
