Gazzetta: 'Hamilton deal complete, possibly going to Ferrari earlier'
- GPblog.com
The English and Italian media, in particular, are currently intensifying the rumours about Hamilton's future. Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport are next in line. According to the Italian sports newspaper, the deal between Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari is complete. There is even talk of a direct switch to the Scuderia.
In that case, Hamilton would replace Carlos Sainz as early as 2024. Sainz has an ongoing contract with Ferrari that expires at the end of next season.
Musical chairs in Formula 1?
Should Hamilton move to the Italian team right from the start, there might be a huge seat swap in Formula 1. In that case, Sainz would have to look for a new employer, while Mercedes would have to fill Hamilton's vacant seat.
Mercedes staff will be briefed on Hamilton's departure this afternoon. Toto Wolff will make an announcement at the factory.
