Horner reveals his idol: 'He drove with so much passion and dedication'
Christian Horner has now been Red Bull Racing's team principal for 19 years. With the Austrian team, the Briton has had huge years of success. Speaking to the BBC, Horner talks about his role at the defending world champions.
During his time at Red Bull, Horner has been through a lot. The Briton has seen Sebastian Vettel become champion four times with the Austrian team, followed by a period when the team could not compete for the championship. This changed in 2021, when Max Verstappen took the title. Since the change in regulations in 2022, no team has so far been able to stop Red Bull.
Horner reveals his idol
When Horner joined Red Bull in Formula 1, he had little experience. He therefore looked up to several individuals within Formula 1: "I’m big fan of Nigel Mansell. He was sort of a hero of mine when I was coming through because he's a really…, he drove with a lot of passion and commitment and heart and, and so on. And then there were guys that were running the team, like, you know, whether it was a Ron Dennis or Frank Williams and so on."
Horner continued: "So suddenly when I joined Red Bull, you're sitting in the same room as these guys that you've looked up to and begin with. But then you realize they're just, they're just competitive people just the same as you at the end of the day. They just got a bit more experience."
