Big names from Formula 1 on the Epstein list: What we know so far
It was long awaited in the United States: a document naming all the people who had ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The document, containing a whopping 943 pages, also includes big names from Formula 1.
Five years ago, the US newspaper Miami Herald filed a lawsuit to ensure the release of Jeffrey Epstein's file. Epstein abused more than 100 women and girls between 2002 and 2018. He was arrested in 2019 but died shortly after by suicide in his cell.
Who is on the Epstein list?
Of the list of names, a lot were already known. For instance, Epstein's former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted in 2022 of recruiting underage women who were abused by Epstein. The names of Britain's Prince Andrew and former president Bill Clinton have also previously been leaked.
The list that has come out in its completeness also features major personalities from Formula 1. For instance, former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, Flavio Briatore and Lawrence Stroll are on the list. Also on the list are two former drivers: Jacques Villeneuve and Eddie Irvine. Formula E founder Alejandro Agag can also be found on the list.
The people on the list are not immediately suspects or ever were. According to The Guardian, the names of journalists who worked on the case are also mentioned. Names of victims and alleged victims are shielded in the document.
