Verstappen picks his favourite drivers: 'He's going to win races'
The 2023 season is now well behind us, all eyes are already on the 2024 F1 year. In exactly 49 days in Bahrain, the lights will go green for the first test. Max Verstappen will start the new season - after three world titles in a row - as the absolute favourite. Although Sergio Perez is also in a Red Bull, no one assumes the Mexican can make a serious bid for the title.
Perhaps herein lies the reason Max Verstappen would not choose Sergio Perez if he were currently the team boss in Formula 1. Who then, the Dutchman is asked in Motorsport Aktuell's season special? " Can I choose myself?", Verstappen immediately bounces the question back to the interviewer. Good news: you can.
"Then myself. And for that I would choose Lando [Norris]. He's still young, with a long career ahead of him. And he can also be very, very fast," Verstappen reveals.
Verstappen sees bright future for Piastri
"I would take Lando and Oscar [Piastri]. So McLaren's drivers. Both are good. Lando is just a bit older than Oscar. Oscar, of course, is a fast rookie. He obviously still has a lot of things to learn, so he can still improve his race speed. What speaks for him, as I see, is that he is a smart guy. He's going to win his races."
Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are mentioned as possible future drivers for Red Bull Racing. Both currently have ongoing contracts at McLaren, which has been on a serious rise in recent months.
