Audi are said to still be interested in Mattia Binotto. The German manufacturer reportedly sees Binotto as someone who can contribute to a successful F1 entry in 2026. The former Ferrari team boss is one of the names on the shortlist, Formu1a.uno reported.

The development of the 2026 engines is currently in full swing, and many engine suppliers have already partially tested their first power units on the test bench. Audi seems to be somewhat behind the competition, according to the aforementioned Italian medium.

According to sources, Audi are still looking for additional engineers. That search is a lot more difficult than initially expected. That is why Binotto's name is dropping more, after all. The 54-year-old Italian was Ferrari's team boss until last season. Before becoming team boss at the Maranello-based racing team, he was - with great success - the head of the engine department. That is also what Audi are now said to be after. Binotto, however, would have more options.

Mercedes

Where Audi currently has some catching up to do, Mercedes are reportedly ahead. Mercedes are said to be the furthest along at the moment and the first to be able to have their complete engine on the test bench.
