To have two drivers in the top five, would have been a dream for Mercedes when the regulations changed last year, but at Circuit of the Americas that once again has become a reality for Andrew Shovlin's team, as Lewis Hamilton secures P3, and George Russell P5

Drive for better and better results at Mercedes

The Brit is understandably happy about the results but still is striving for more "I think we're a bit disappointed we couldn't get further up to be honest. At points we thought we were really in the fight there for pole, but George had a good recovery as well because he's found it really tough, just getting to grip with the circuit when you've only got one session," revealed the trackside engineering director to F1TV

He also commented on the upgrades they had brought to COTA and what that means for Sunday: "We're pleased that we were able to get it working because when you bring a new package into a sprint race you've got one shot at landing everything in the right place. So Lewis was really happy with the car and he was enjoying it"

Adding to this: "I mean we're looking forward to the racing, and we normally race well. We did some long-run work this morning. That looked good for Lewis and George actually. They're both looking competitive. So hopefully, we can move forward from where we are, and the sprint tomorrow afternoon does give you a little bit of a flavour of what's to come in the main race on Sunday."
