Time penalty for Perez after incident during Singapore Grand Prix
Sergio Perez has received a five-second time penalty for an incident with Alexander Albon at the Singapore Grand Prix. It does not affect his final position: the Red Bull Racing driver retains his eighth place.
Perez gets a time penalty but retains P8
FIA stewards believe Perez was at fault for the incident with Albon, in which the Red Bull Racing and Williams drivers hit each other. The contact moment occurred during an overtaking move by Perez on Albon.
That overtaking manoeuvre was somewhat optimistic, according to the stewards. They argue that he dived into the corner while Albon was still in front of him and felt there was nothing the Williams driver could have done to avoid a collision. As a result, Perez was singled out as the main culprit, earning him a five-second time penalty and a penalty point on his licence. The penalty had no impact on the result. Perez had a lead of over 11 seconds over Liam Lawson and, therefore, retained his eighth place.
