Horner mocks Verstappen and GP: 'Bit of marriage therapy needed'
Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen both go into the summer break with a massive lead in both the constructors' and drivers' standings, with the Belgian Grand Prix giving the Austrian racing stable and Verstappen yet another win. However, there was some bickering on the team radio between the Dutchman and Gianpiero Lambiase, the Dutchman's race engineer.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner denies serious problems within his team: "You know, sometimes it sounds like they need a bit of marriage counselling, but there's great respect and trust between the two of them. For any top sportsman, they lean on the people around them, and I think GP is the one having that interaction," he told SpeedCity Broadcasting in an interview.
Red Bull team boss Horner on Verstappen and Lambiase
Team boss Horner feels that Verstappen is not the easiest person to have over the team radio. As such, the British Red Bull man explains that many other race engineers would struggle to cope with a driver like Verstappen, but 'GP' can.
"That's been going on for about six years! Look, Max is a tough customer, and he would break many race engineers, and you've got to have somebody who has got self-assurance who can deal with that, and GP is our Jason Statham equivalent, and there's a trust and a bond between them.," Horner said.
