Vasseur confirms: 'Ferrari contracts top engineer for '25 car'
For now, it did not want to work out, but there finally seems to be a breakthrough: Ferrari' s search for a new technical director appears to be at an end. Indeed, team boss Frederic Vasseur has announced that there will be news in the near future.
Mattia Binotto fulfilled a dual role at Ferrari until the end of last year. He was not only the team boss, but also ultimately responsible at the technical level. After his departure from the Italians, Vasseur came in as team boss, but he is not the technical boss. For six months now, Ferrari has been looking for someone to take up the position, a process that did not run smoothly for a long time.
'Not up and running until 2025'
Vasseur confessed to Autosprint that he recently contacted a "top engineer" who will join Ferrari. One small detail: it will be some time before the man or woman can start work at his new employer. "He will work on the car only in 2025 and for 2026. It sounds like a long wait, but if you don't act, it could be even worse in six months. You must accept these conditions as the basis of F1. If at a certain point you stop, it will mean further postponing the effects," Vasseur said.
Who the new technical boss is, that is still unknown. Given that the newcomer cannot start until '25, it suggests that the mysterious man or woman is currently employed by another F1 team. In sport, it is common practice for staff to sit at home for a while first when transferring to another team, so that secrets cannot be taken to the new employer.
