Leclerc parries Mercedes rumours: 'Negotiations not started'
Charles Leclerc has recently become entwined in rumours of a possible switch to Mercedes. The Monegasque still has a contract until 2024. The Ferrari driver won't let the cheese eat away at him and reacted to these rumours in an interview with Monaco Matin.
The 25-year-old Leclerc has often been linked with Mercedes. The German team is not running very well, and 38-year-old Lewis Hamilton has still not renewed his contract. Rumours were therefore that Leclerc would be involved in a swap with the Briton, but this does not seem to be on the cards for now.
Leclerc is determined
When asked in the interview whether Leclerc would soon be admired in a Mercedes, he was very resolute. "No comment," the 25-year-old driver said firmly. "As my contract expires at the end of 2024, I can understand people thinking about this. The rumour exists, okay, but it doesn't bother me."
The driver would like to stick to the facts. "No negotiations have been started. So ask Fred when he plans to start discussions! Me, I'm fully focused on the track. I like Ferrari." Leclerc said.
