Brown: Andretti is a healthy team for Formula 1
There are currently 10 different constructors running in the Formula 1 World Championship, but this may be about to change. There has been talk of Andretti being admitted for some time, and alongside this, three more teams are expected to apply.
Teams have no voice on grid expansion'
The FIA is promoting the idea of more teams on Formula 1's starting grid. The motorsport federation opened a formal process earlier this year whereby new teams can apply for a place on the grid. In it, teams must show their business plan for the first five years, looking at various factors. However, participating in the process is not free: submitting an application costs $300,000.
While most Formula 1 teams do not see an expansion of the grid, McLaren CEO Zak Brown sees potential in the idea, he told Fox Sports: "I'd love to see the grid expand with the right terms and conditions. We know I'm a supporter of Michael and Cadillac and I think they'd be healthy for the sport."
According to Brown, it is not the case that the Formula 1 teams have a say in grid expansion. Whether the teams agree or not, they will have to wait for a ruling from the FIA. Who knows, then, we might see a new team in Formula 1 in the near future.
