Police in Italy have arrested four people for the theft of an expensive watch belonging to Charles Leclerc. The arrests happened early this Tuesday in Viarregio. Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
On Easter Monday of 2022, Leclerc greeted a group of Ferrari fans in the Italian city. These men and women asked for autographs, took photos with the Monegasque, and, above all, called on him to give Ferrari the world championship that year. During an unguarded moment, someone apparently managed to slip the watch off Leclerc's wrist.
Prestigious, Swiss watch
Leclerc only noticed later that his watch had been stolen. By then, the thieves were already gone. Thanks to surveillance cameras, several people became of interest for the theft of the watch, which, according to the police report, was prestigious and Swiss-made and represented considerable value. Italian media do not report whether the watch has been recovered.
The arrest of the possible thieves is good news for Leclerc in a year that started extremely poorly on the track. The Ferrari driver could not finish two Grands Prix this season. In Jeddah, he did reach the finish, but only crossed the line in seventh place. In the championship, Leclerc is now immense behind leader Max Verstappen, the man the Monegasque wanted to challenge this season.
