During the 2022 Formula 1 season, Ferrari refused to designate a driver as number one, an approach that Fred Vasseur wants to continue. Charles Leclerc concurs with the words of his new team boss, but does believe that at some point a choice will have to be made.

Vasseur has made it clear since taking office that there will be no first driver at Ferrari at the start of the new Formula 1 season. Leclerc agreed with that approach, although he does not think it should necessarily be maintained throughout the season.

Leclerc agrees with Vasseur's approach

"I completely agree with this philosophy, you cannot start a year like this," the Ferrari driver said in conversation with Racer.com. "I think it’s important for Carlos and I to be fully motivated to do the best job possible in the first part of the season, to push each other to perform the best."

Still, the 25-year-old Monegasque believes that Ferrari must dare to make choices if it turns out that either driver can compete for the world title. He continued: "Then if at one point in the championship a driver is fully in the fight for winning that championship then I’m sure the team will do everything possible for the driver that fighting for the championship to be in the best possible conditions. For this we’ll talk later obviously, but at the beginning of the season I think it’s the right thing to do."
