Last season, Williams managed to finish eighth in the constructors' championship after some fine performances by George Russell. This season, unfortunately, the British team again had the worst car on the grid. Alexander Albon and Nicholas Latifi managed to accumulate only a few points. Speaking to The Race Latifi says that Russell too would have struggled to drive the Williams in 2022.

There was no competition within the Williams team last season. Albon easily managed to beat his teammate in both qualifying and the race. Next year, Latifi will be replaced at Williams by young driver Logan Sargeant. With that, Latifi's three-year Formula 1 career comes to an end.

In 2022, the Canadian lost all the confidence in his car that he had built up in the previous two years. He managed to score two points with a ninth-place finish on the wet track at Suzuka. Last season, Russell achieved two fantastic results with a second place at Spa and a third place in Sochi during qualifying.

Russell too would have struggled

Latifi believes Russell could not have achieved such handsome results with the 2022 car. "This year’s car was a step backwards. I guarantee if George was here he’d say the same. Last year’s car wasn’t easy and I did have to adapt my driving style to it, but this one I found particularly difficult", Latifi begins.

"It’s a results-based industry and the performance hasn’t been there, this year particularly and the team had to do what’s best for them. But I’m definitely satisfied that I didn’t leave anything on the table, how I went about things. No regrets. I’ve done a lot trying to get on top of the issues I’ve had with this car. But it didn’t work out", the Canadian driver ends.
