Logan Sargeant has secured himself a permanent seat at Williams in 2023, but he has not yet been able to get many miles in a Formula 1 car. Possibly Alpine is going to offer him the chance to gain some extra experience during the winter break.

Alpine willing to let Sargeant test

After obtaining his super licence, Sargeant was officially confirmed as a driver at Williams. He competed for his new team during the Young Driver Test at the Yas Marina Circuit, but will have to wait a while after this before he can gain more experience in an F1 car.

A chance to get some extra mileage in Alpine's car may present itself, but it would require an agreement between the two teams. "We wouldn't be adverse to putting him in one of our old cars and running him," Alpine boss Otmar Szafnauer told Autosport.com.

The team boss has not forgotten that Williams was supportive when Alpine wanted to bring Oscar Piastri up somewhere else, despite that scenario not materialising. Szafnauer believes it is important to maintain a good relationship with other teams so that they can potentially do something for each other in the future too.

Sargeant secured his FIA super licence during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend. His fourth finishing position in the Formula 2 championship provided more than enough points to earn the coveted licence. In addition, the fact that he accumulated no penalty points in both 2021 and 2022 earned him four extra points.
