Hulkenberg defends Haas: 'Team gave Mick a lot of time to prove himself'

Nico Hulkenberg will replace Mick Schumacher at Haas F1 next season. Although the German finds it disappointing for his compatriot to have to leave Formula 1, Hulkenberg speaks to Auto, Motor und Sport realistically about the situation.
In his second season with the US formation, Schumacher seemed to be on the upward curve, but it was ultimately too little for Guenther Steiner to continue with him. It ensures that the driver will not appear on the grid in 2023.
Hulkenberg knows the Formula 1 world better than anyone and knows how tough it can be. "In the end, the teams decide who drives the cars. And they usually put in the people they think are best for the team. So it's not my decision," he explained.
Hulkenberg supports Haas policy
In recent months, Hulkenberg saw up close how Haas tried to get Schumacher to perform as yet, but that the driver did not show enough. He therefore believes Haas has given Schumacher enough chances.
"As far as I know, it has all been very fair from the summer onwards. The team gave Mick a lot of time to prove himself. In the end they decided not to do it. In any case, age should not be an issue," Hulkenberg said. Next season, he will team up with Kevin Magnussen for Haas.
