Williams is developing behind the scenes, according to Jost Capito, but there is little sign of that on the track for now. The British squad did not score more than eight points this season, which puts it in last place. In the coming years, the team boss hopes to make strides with the team, but he does not yet mention an ultimatum.

"We would never name a year," Capito is in conversation with Motorsport-magazin.com clear. "Just look at Ferrari. Or Red Bull: they have had to catch up since 2014. That's eight years. It's impossible to say, because you're not fighting against fixed values. Everyone develops."

Due to the new regulations in place this year, all Formula 1 teams had to reinvent several things. However, no more drastic changes are on the agenda until 2026, so Williams will have to work hard to keep up with the competition.

Capito therefore realises that a big challenge awaits Williams. "Progress does not just mean developing yourself. You have to develop more than others, otherwise you don't take a step forward. That is impossible to predict."

Williams sees Schumacher as back-up

Next season, Logan Sargeant is expected to sit alongside Alexander Albon. Should the driver not qualify for a super licence in Formula 1, Capito says Mick Schumacher is on the reserve list. The latter driver is still waiting to see if Haas F1 will continue with him.
