No new deal for Hamilton yet: Mercedes want to wait until winter

Lewis Hamilton is keen to sign a new deal at Mercedes but needs to be patient for a while. Toto Wolff points to the victory break as a prime opportunity to sit quietly for this.
At the end of 2023, the then-38-year-old Hamilton's contract expires. While many wondered if the seven-time world champion would think of retiring, the latter instead revealed that he wants to sign a new, multi-year deal with Mercedes. Hamilton is still aiming for his eighth world title and believes he is still competitive.

From Mercedes, there is also no doubt about who should get the seat after 2023. For instance, Wolff stated to Motorsport.com that the seat is 100 per cent for Hamilton. So the German racing team will not be looking for other drivers either, although it is not in a hurry for the new deal either. The team is aiming for the winter.
Talks with Hamilton have not started yet either. ''We want to definitely finish the season and then find some quiet time over the winter like we have done last time around,'' said the Mercedes team boss. Apart from his role as a driver, they will also look at the ambassador role for Mercedes that Hamilton has.
