Hulkenberg on contract negotiations with Haas: 'Have to be patient'
- GPblog.com
More and more indications are emerging that Nico Hulkenberg will take a seat in the second seat at Haas in 2023. The current reserve driver for Aston Martin says he is "relatively optimistic" about talks with the team.
It is beginning to look more and more like Hulkenberg will return to Formula 1 next year. The German is a big favourite for the seat at Haas. Hulkenberg will possibly replace Mick Schumacher there. The young driver is said to have not impressed the team enough this season.
Guenther Steiner himself has already confirmed that Haas is holding talks with Hulkenberg. The team is keen to announce before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix who will be Kevin Magnussen's new teammate, as the second driver is likely to come in action during the Young Driver Test after the last race. Fernando Alonso and Nyck de Vries, among others, will also be in action there with their new teams.
Hulkenberg gives an update on talks with Haas
At ServusTV in Mexico, Hulkenberg himself tells more about the talks with Haas. The German reveals that he has nothing concrete to report yet. "In the end, it is not my decision. Talks are still being held. I am relatively optimistic, but we still have to be patient", Hulkenberg says.
On Tuesday, Aston Martin announced that Stoffel Vandoorne will become the team's new test and reserve driver along with Felipe Drugovich. Hulkenberg has held that role at Aston Martin since 2020. Vandoorne's announcement may indicate that the German has now found a place elsewhere.
