Honda will leave Formula 1 at the end of 2021. Red Bull Racing will take over the rights to the engines and will continue to develop them within the constraints of the so-called 'engine-freeze'. Franz Tost has hinted that not everyone at Honda is happy with the departure from the sport.

After seven eventful seasons, Honda is saying goodbye to Formula One again. It returned as an engine supplier to McLaren in 2015. That didn't turn out to be a good marriage and the F1 team and Honda ended the partnership after three seasons. Honda joined Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) in 2018 and a year later began a successful partnership with Red Bull Racing.

No unanimous decision from Honda

After three successful years with Red Bull in which many races were won and the team still has a chance of winning both championships in 2021, Honda is leaving the sport again. But according to AlphaTauri team principal Tost that decision was not unanimous: "Whether Honda will come back or not I don't know", he is quoted by F1i.com.

"I can't speak in the name of the management, or the board at Honda, but there are some people - or some managers - who are satisfied and happy to do Formula 1. And others who think that the company should go in another direction," he concludes.
