Last year Ferrari had a very disappointing season. The Italian team finished in sixth place in the Constructors' Championship, something that last happened in 1980. Yet Mattia Binotto refuses to throw in the towel in advance of the new season.

In conversation with formula1.com Binotto let it be known that they are sticking to their battle plan. "Nothing changes in our plans. I realize of course that time is not infinite and that we have to perform this season. I too am making my contribution to that."

Thinking about the future

Binotto acknowledged that last season was not easy, but he also sees positives. "Last year was a tough season in different aspects. Our performance was also unfortunately underwhelming. Finishing sixth in the championship is just bad. But last season we also invested a lot in the future."

Among other things, he is referring to the arrival of Carlos Sainz to sit alongside Charles Leclerc. "We are trying to create a stable base to be as competitive as possible. Hopefully that will take us forward."
