The 2021 season will be Honda's last Formula 1 season. After next year, they will leave Formula 1, making it a huge challenge for Red Bull Racing to get the powerhouse up and running. Honda does, however, declare that they will give their all in 2021 to make it their most successful season ever.

In a message on behalf of Honda, Masashi Yamamoto, director of Honda F1, looks back on the past season. He admits that second place in the constructors' championship was not the goal.

Honda disappointed with second place

"As we started the season with the goal of winning the championship, it was a disappointing year from that point of view. We were confident prior to the opening race in Austria, but we weren't able to really challenge Mercedes," says Yamamoto.

He continues: "But it's also true that for Honda, it's the first time since 2004 that we've come second in the championship. Mercedes was dominant, but Verstappen won the F1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix and Gasly won his first race at Monza. That was very special."
