With the proposed plans of extending the Formula 1 season to 24 races, it is thought that winter testing will be made shorter. Some Formula 1 bosses believe that this is a problem but Mattia Binotto doesn't think it will make a difference to the sport.

"I do not think so," Binotto said to Motorsport.com when asked about whether cutting testing would impact teams. "Now we have the two weeks in Montmelò and then we go directly to Australia, so if a problem emerges in the tests there is no time to solve it before Melbourne.

"Today, a winter test is aimed at getting to know the car, understanding its behavior, but you will never have time to tackle any major problems before the season starts. This is why we are all developing internal structures: test benches and simulators, tools that allow us to evaluate the project without waiting to be on track.”

Formula 1 is set to change dramatically in 2021 and reducing testing could be part of this plan. It seems that it might not be as big a problem as initially thought.
