Andrew Shovlin admits Lewis Hamilton had some bad luck in the early stages of the 2022 Formula One season. According to Mercedes' Trackside Engineer, Hamilton often got the parts not working properly.

It is clear that Mercedes will have a difficult start to the season in 2022. The German team has won its last eight world titles, but in the first nine races it had to watch Red Bull Racing and Ferrari simply go much faster. As a result, a lot of testing was required during race weekends to better understand the car.

Bad luck for Hamilton

''We were behind in the beginning so we had to learn. You can't learn if you don't experiment with parts on the car. Lewis had some bad luck in the beginning with how parts worked out. You don't know in advance what works well and what doesn't. On the track you try to get that right. On the track you try to understand that", says Shovlin in conversation with Sky Sports.

For Mercedes fans, however, Shovlin has good news for the British Grand Prix. ''The programme at Silverstone is a bit simpler, because there are maybe other things we have to take into account and fast corners. We haven't had many fast corners this year. So we are just trying to get as much as possible out of this car this weekend.''
